Dear Parishioner…Around & About Ste. Rose,

Dear Parishioner…Around & About Ste. Rose,

Opportunities for Ministerial Roles

The parish is in need of committed individuals for ministerial roles at the celebration of the Eucharist. Needed are: Lectors, Youth Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Youth Choir Members, Senior Choir Members, and Altar Servers.

LECTOR: Lectors are needed to proclaim "The Word of God" at Saturday/Sunday Mass. The parish is critically short of members for this liturgical ministry. Scheduling lectors will become a little easier with the reduced Mass schedule beginning in January of 2009. To proclaim the Word of God at Mass is to make God present at Mass to all in attendance. As Catholics we believe that God is as present in The Word as in the Eucharist. The celebration of the Liturgy of the Word is not to simply "read" the text of Sacred Scripture but to announce it clearly and boldly. It is upon The Word that the priest prepares the homily for Mass.

EXTRA-ORDINARY MINISTER OF THE EUCHARIST: The ordinary minister of the Eucharist is the priest by virtue of ordination. The deacon, by virtue of his ordination is an ordinary minister of the Eucharist along with the priest. Through baptism the members of the laity are called to be an "extra-ordinary" minister of the Eucharist. In conjunction with the priest, the "E.M." facilitates the distribution of the Eucharist at Mass so as not to prolong unduly the Rite of Distribution. The "E.M." assists the Pastoral Staff to bring the Eucharist to the home-bound members of the parish.

CHOIR MEMBERS: Youth and Senior Choirs are meant to assist the congregation in singing hymns at each liturgical celebration. Also the choir is meant to inspire the congregation through reflective selections of hymns. A commitment to a choir is of utmost importance. Therefore attendances at rehearsals are critical for the choir to become harmonious and truly inspirational.

ALTAR SERVERS: trained Altar Servers are critical to effective and affective liturgical celebrations. Serving at Mass is also a great opportunity for the youth of the parish to grow in a deeper love and reverence for the Eucharist. This role is also one that requires training for devotional service.

Each of the above-mentioned liturgical roles need committed people. It is time for the majority of the parish to "roll up your sleeves" and more fully participate in the liturgical ministries of the parish. On the day of baptism all Catholics were anointed with the Chrism of Salvation. The priest said these words: "As Christ was anointed priest, prophet, and king so may you live as a member of His body sharing in everlasting life." Please consider your gifts and become a more integral part of each celebration of the Eucharist.
Fr. Bill
